In heavy-duty workshops, there are certain jobs few technicians look forward to. Replacing kingpins is one of them. Components that have been in place for decades—exposed to weather, road salt, and extreme loads—tend to seize into the structure itself. Traditionally, the solution has been as obvious as it is time-consuming: disassemble, transport to a shop press, and work with large margins—both in time and physical effort. But that picture is beginning to change.

In today’s workshop environment, the demands on both equipment and working methods are constantly increasing. Strut assemblies are stronger, materials are more complex, and tolerances are tighter. This makes working with springs and shock absorbers both more demanding and more hazardous.

Working with pressed wheel bearings is a common but often demanding task in workshops servicing passenger cars, vans, and SUVs. Modern vehicles feature larger wheel bearings, more complex suspension systems, and sensitive components such as ABS sensors and aluminium steering knuckles. To perform the job efficiently, the right tools and controlled pressing force are essential.

One of the best parts of working with tools for professional workshops is the opportunity to get out and see how the equipment is actually used in real life. One year ago, the journey took us to East Haddam, Connecticut, where we visited Eddie’s Autobody – a workshop that has been using Wallmek’s tool system in their daily work for some time.
